WW2 German 10mm – Command Stands

Hi all,

What a week or so its been, my emotions have been like a yoyo which has meant that ive been unable to update this. However i have managed to get some work done on the minis.

Now as I stated before I was going to walk you through how I prepair and base my stands for BCK so here we go.

After cleaning up the minis, which with Pendraken minis is a 20 second job usualy just smothing the bases off. I dry assemble the minis on there relevant stand to get a feel for how the base will look. I think this is even more important for the command stands which I have done like little dioramas.

Firstly the few guns i had left

Then the Command Stand

The HQ stands

Finaly the FAO stand

As the men have little plinths I then glue these directly to the base.

Then I texture the base using the crack filling cement you can get at most hardware stores, I got mine from Wilkos. This allows me to build up the base to the mens feet. I then usualy also press whatever vehicles into the plaster to get imprints of where they should be and extend the wheel/track rutts of the base.

I then leave the base to dry for a day, just to make sure its completly set. The guns, vehicles and other items are then glued on top. Once the glue is fully cured the entire base is then undercoated in my black gesso and left to dry, again I leave it a day. Well to be fair its been about 4 so far, but the intention is only a day.

There you go. Hope this helps you.
Take care

Almost finished – 10mm WW2 Germans

What a terrible week or so its been for me. I’ve been very low and unmotivated, tried doing things and it’s just not happened, kept getting my flocking materials out to finish of the bases and then just not following through. I think it must be hard for anyone to look at such a simple job and thing, whats his problem it’s like a 10 min job, but there you go. The mind is a strong force in all of us and when it isn’t working as it should its control is hard to break.

Anyway I have finally managed to get the work done. All of the German forces that were based up here are now fully painted and flocked, just to run them round my mate Petes for a blast of varnish.

Here are some pictures of them, as always sorry for the pictured, not much light and the camera is still the same one ive been using for ages.

10 x Standard Infantry
A mix of Pendraken Riflemen(GR1), MP40(GR2) and Officer(GR7)

4 x Infantry with Pz Shreck

4 x Infantry with Pz Faust
A mix of Pendraken Riflemen(GR1), MP40(GR2) and Officer(GR7) and Pz Faust(GR6)

6 x MG42’s
Pendrakens MG42 team (GR4)

4 x 8cm GWR34 mortar
Pendrakens 8cm GWR34 mortar with crew (GR15)

2 x 120mm mortar
Pendrakens 120mm mortar with crew (GR76)

1 x 150mm IG
Pendrakens 150mm IG with crew(GR99) and some dressing from their Boxes and sacks(GR44)

Heres a quick pic of them all packed up in the KR Multicase

So now that they are done the next job is to get the final few units assembled and done. Ill try to document the entire process so you know how I do it.

To do are the following

75mm IG
2 x Pak 40
Command Stand
4 x HQ stand
FAO
FAC (i think)

And that will be the germans finished, it should also give me a nice varied force to try out some differnt things with the Blitzkreig Commander Rules.

Take care all.

German WW2 10mm

Ah its good to get that finished. I got the hands and faces of all the germans done today and it was a pain in the rear.

Turned out ok though.

Here they are

Sorry for the quality of the pic, im going to have to save up for a new camera, any sugestions.

Take care all.
Brian.

German WW2 10mm

Hi all,

Well Ive been a little bit more driven today and finaly got some sections of my BKC German force completed.

Firstly the transport section. These are 6 Opel Trucks from the Pendraken range. They were really nice models, the canvas tilt is a seperate part of the model so you could choose to have it unglued if you wanted to show the contents of your trucks. I have based them on 20x40mm of 2.5mm MDF that I got, allong with all my bases, from East Riding Miniatures. The base was then built up using wall filler to give it some definiton. The Truck is the super glued on top. I have used sand, flock and static grass to dress the base and give it some character. As this is one of the projects I started prior to working on the blog i dont have anything in the way of assembly pictures, but here they are finished and ready for service.

Next I have my tanks, ive 3 bases of Panzer IV g and 3 bases of Hetzers. Again these are Pendraken models, again there excelent quality. I based them in the same fasion as the trucks but the base dimentions are 30x50mm.

Also today I did a little more work on the support weapons. Painting the MG42s and putting the flock down on the bases.

Trucks – German WW2 10mm

Got some more work done on these loverly models by Pendraken. Simple enough in theory to paint. VMC Middlestone for the body work then Khaki on the tilt. The Middlestone just wouldnt cover so ended up putting a GW Gryphonne Sepia wash on the wood and Badab Black wash on the cab and drybrushing VMC Middlestone over it again. It looks quite nice. Think I will finish it all of with a GW Devlin Mud wash but im not sure as yet.

The windows, im thinking a very very dark blue with some white reflection lines accross, not 100% sure as yet but ill keep you informed.

Trucks and Support – German WW2 10mm

Got the base coat on this lot of the Dunkelgelb. The colour I use for this is Vallejo Model Colours “Middlestone”. Usualy this goes on no problem at all, it covered my tanks fine. However on the trucks I seem to have done 3 coats and it still seems dark. However since the paint changes in the field due to wear im happy with it as it is. Once its fully dry ill go over it with a wash brown/black do a quick dry brush on the trucks in Middlestone again and then I should be able to work on the tilts.

As for the various support weapons, MG42’s mortars and antitank weapons one coat sufficed. They will get washed when the entire miniature is painted.

So heres some photos.

On another note I think I need a new camera, the one I have seems very intermitent in the quality of its photos.

Thanks for reading.

Getting them dressed – German WW2 10mm

Todays big job was painting my 10mm uniforms on. Simple enough job but poor light allmost had me throwing them out the window. I used a basecoat of Vallejo Model Colour “German Fieldgrey WW2” I brushed this liberaly over the minis, knowing that any over painting can easily be corrected later. Then a good highlight of that colour mixed with Vallejo Model Colour “Ivory”. I use ivory as opposed to White on the advice of my friend Pete who rightly pointed out that using white can result in a more pastle looking shade which tends not to come with Ivory.

Anyway thats all the germans painted, and heres how they look in all there messy glory.

As allways, thanks for reading.

Covering the bases – German WW2 10mm

Today I wanted to get the big job of colouring the bases of my german army. This took two hours and involved daubing browns onto the bases. I used 3 browns from the Vallejo Model Color range Beige Brown, Flat Earth and Chocolate Brown. With a stiff brush I just covered the bases with them and it turned out ok. Once the models are finished ill be putting down some green flock just to break it up a bit.

Primed germans on painted bases

Not sure if ill get anything else done today, the light is terrible in the front room.

Enjoy and take care.

On the desk – Undercoating

Today Ive managed to get two things ready for painting.

Firstly Ive allmost all my German Army for Blitzkreig Commander (BCK) all based up. So I got all those Undercoated. This includes infantry, support weapons and transport. Four of the infantry stands have panzerfaust and four have panzershrek. Those with keen eyes may only see three of each of those in the photo, this is because I used those two bases as my tester for my painting.

Secondly I also got primed all my 10mm fantasy figures that Id got from Pendraken. Im really looking forward to getting these painted.

Currently on the Shelf – Blitzkrieg Commander

Blitzkrieg Commander is a really nice rules system for doing larger scale battles. After some messing about and playing with orbats and ToE’s and eventualy getting my mate Pete to tell me what to buy I ordered a German and a Russian force from Pendraken in 10mm to do this with. Again this is a project I’ve managed to get some progress on.

Firstly the Germans, I have most of these based up and primered and some are even finished.

The Germans

The German force

However there are still a few guns to assemble and the various command stands to do.

Baged Germans

Its in the bag

As for the Russians other than check that I was given the right stuff at last years Fiasco in Leeds they are still all bagged up.

Soviet Force in Bag

Protected from the Siberian Winter

I think that the Germans here will probably one of the first things that I get finished, but no promises.

Almost forgot as my friend usualy games in 20mm he had not 10mm terain so he bought me these for my birthday, im unsure as to the make.
